Meet the Teacher Blogger {Linky}

Hey y'all!  My name is Anna, and I'm just getting my blog started.  This is such a fun way to connect with other teacher-bloggers!  Thank you Falling Into First for this fabulous idea!

I'm a 32 year old teacher, aunt, daughter, and single lady! This is my ninth year teaching, with eight of those years teaching Mathematics.  I love my work with students, and truly feel blessed to teach math.  Major props to all the Reading teachers out there!  I don't see how y'all do it!

My boys are my babies!  Clearly...you can tell that they are my fur babies.  But aren't they just adorable?  They are the biggest, laziest, cuddliest dogs and perfect to come home to after work!

This summer I have really tried to focus on relaxing and rejuvenating before this next school year starts.  So I have spent alot of time in the pool and hanging out with my best friend, Lindsey.

I also read around 50 books this summer.  (I'm a HUGE reader.)  And, for any of you who love to read, I read all five Game of Thrones books this summer, and they were amazing!

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...

The lotion you can use in the shower.  The one from Olay.  I really hate the feel of lotion on my skin, and that stuff has to be the best invention ever!  I buy 4-5 bottles of it whenever they have it in stock at our store, because apparently it is a seasonal item.
My family. Church. Friends. Books. TV - especially Sons of Anarchy and all the Real Housewives shows. Madres - a local restaurant that I visit quite frequently. Harry Potter movies and books. Fall. Football Season - Gig 'Em Aggies!

IF YOU WEREN'T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
I always wanted to be a teacher.  It's in my DNA.  I used to have classes in my garage with my neighborhood friends, using my mom's TEs!  But, if I had to pick something else, it would have to be a Crime Scene Investigator.  It's so fascinating how they help to solve crimes!

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Loyal. Honest. Trustworthy.

FINISH THE SENTENCE, "________,  SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!"

"I don't need to restock my classroom pencil supply...said no teacher EVER!!"

Q: IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE {DEAD OR ALIVE} TO THE PARTY. WHO ARE YOU INVITING?

Great musicians from the past - Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Boston.
AND
Paul Walker, Channing Tatum, Ian Kinsler.....all kinds of eye candy!  Remember...I am single! :)

Q: IF SOMEONE WROTE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?

 Zesty and Zealous

Q:YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?

Definitely teleportation.  Only because I hate driving to get places.  I want to be there NOW! Haha!

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

"Carry on My Wayward Son" by Kansas

Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?

I'm definitely a Night Owl.  My productivity is soooooo much better at night.  Staying up until 3am is normal for me (during the summer.) Mornings are just so hard....and I must have caffeine in order to do anything before 10am.

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE THAT YOU'VE CREATED IN YOUR TPT SHOP?

I really love my Measurement Memory/Matching game because it has both customary and metric system conversions.  My students really enjoyed it and didn't even complain about working out the conversions...so it has to be a win!

Q: SHARE SOMETHING WE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU!

I'm nervous about blogging.  My sister is super good at it, but it's taken me over an hour just to do this!  (Eek!) But I am excited to get into it, and hope that I get more comfortable as I get going!

Now it's your turn to go on over and meet other teacher-bloggers!  Join the fun!

Classroom Preparations...

It's that time again....a new school year is upon us! (Eek!)  Like every year at this time, I'm wondering, "Did I get everything planned this summer that I needed to?" or "Are my students excited and ready for this year to start?" My largest concern, although, is, "How am I going to wake up at 5:30am after a summer of waking up at noon?" (Hey, I'm single and childless...I can sleep as late as I want to. Don't judge!)

But one aspect of going back to school that I never have to worry about is getting my classroom decorated.  Thanks to my amazing mother, who helps me every year, it is always a quick process with super cute results!

Every year my school has a theme, and this year's is Dr. Seuss.  So my outside bulletin board, of course, had to work with this theme.
I traced the bigger fish and colored them for shading effects.  The small red and blue fish will have the names of my homeroom students as soon as I get my class list.

This construction paper organizer is a lifesaver since the more organized everything is, the less stressed out I am!

This cute canvas was made by a student's parent last year...and I just love it!

To try to camoflage the electrical wire covers, I just used construction paper for "frames" and hot glued pictures of my family and friends.  This is one of my favorite "personal" decorations that I have!

This bulletin board contains the warm-ups that my students will do each day as they come into my classroom.

Our students get laptops provided by the school district when they reach 5th grade.  So, of course, they need guidance and set expectations.  This was a great way to do both decorate my closet and have these "Computer Rules" visible.  The cute prints and frog were made by my sister. (Thanks, Amy!)

The decorations above the white board and on top of my lockers continue the "Frog and Flowers" theme of my classroom.  Aren't they adorable?  They were also done by my sister as a birthday present two years ago. (Did I mention that I have an awesome family?)

The first year of teaching, my mom made these Bloom's Taxonomy flowers.  I love them and have kept them up ever since! Ignore the calendar...which I clearly need to change!

I'm still working on finishing the containers at my desk groups, but I decided to stop for the day to enjoy the last 1 1/2 days of summer!

Looking Forward to Getting to Know You!

Hello everyone!  This is my first official blog post, and I can't wait to enter into this world of educational blogging!

I'm starting my ninth year of teaching math, and my sixth year of teaching 5th grade math.  I teach in Forney, TX, which is the town where I was lucky enough to grow up.  Teaching is such a fun and rewarding lifestyle, and I feel so blessed to be able to work with my students everyday.

While I have my Masters degree from Lamar University, I am a pure Texas Aggie - Class of 2004, Whoop!
Only one day left until work starts.  I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer!
